Students Operate in Scrubs at Annual ‘Doctors- for-a-Day’ Event |

Thirty Students from CPCS and BwCCS took a field trip of a lifetime on June 15 when they visited New York Presbyterian/Columbia University’s Department of Urology where they were able to operate laparoscopic surgical instruments in doctor’s scrubs, learn about the body’s organs and were given lessons on healthy eating.
Students watched physicians and medical technicians perform live demonstrations and learned about the process of transplanting organs during the fourth annual event.
“You can do anything you want in life,” Jaime Landman, MD, Director of Minimally Invasive Urology, told the group of students as they took part in interactive activities. “Maybe one day you all will become doctors and will be able to change the world,” said Dr. Landman, who led the event.
During the four-hour trip, doctors and staff gave students, who have a great interest in science, various one-of-a-kind lessons In addition, a hospital nutritionist discussed the importance of a healthy diet with students while they enjoyed a nutritious lunch.
