Serving Brooklyn More than a Decade
Beginning with Children Foundation (BwCF) co-founded CPCS in 2000 with a group of parents from Fort Greene, Brooklyn, who were interested in replicating the
Beginning with Children Charter School in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that was started eight years earlier.
The school started with grades K-1 on Clermont Avenue, eventually outgrowing its space and co-locating two grades at PS 9 for two years before moving to shared space at PS 270 in 2004.
CPCS recently amended its charter to allow it to grow to serve grades 6-8. Its new middle school, currently consisting of grades 5 - 7, is located nearby at PS 256 at 114 Kosciusko St. in Brooklyn. In 2012-13, the school will reach full enrollment of 450 students in K-8.
